Menu Item Categories are used to categorize your individual line items or charges for reporting and financial purposes. Popular examples of Menu Item Categories include food, beverage, and room rental. By setting up Menu Item Categories in Tripleseat, you can ensure that your charges are billed according to your requirements and allow for accurate reporting.
ADDING A NEW MENU ITEM CATEGORY
- Go to Settings > Menu Item Categories.
- Click on + New Menu Item Category.
- Add a Name.
- You will then want to check off the Billing Details that should apply to the new Menu Item Category. When this Menu Item Category is applied to a Picklist item, these Billing Details will be automatically selected.
- Click Create.
UPDATING PICKLIST
This step will update existing Picklist Items in Settings to tag them with the new Menu Item Category.
- Go to Settings > Picklists > Edit.
- Click Expand All on the right to expand all items quickly.
- Assign the Menu Item Category as needed.

- If all items in the Picklist belong to the new category, use the “Mass Assign to Category” dropdown to select the Category. That will refresh all items so they are tagged with the most up-to-date version of taxes and fees.
- If Items belong to multiple categories, use the Category dropdown to manually adjust individual items as needed.
- If all items in the Picklist belong to the new category, use the “Mass Assign to Category” dropdown to select the Category. That will refresh all items so they are tagged with the most up-to-date version of taxes and fees.
- Click “Save."
- Repeat for all Picklists that require an update.
