When creating or editing menu items or packages, you’ll have the option to add Item Groups and Modifier Groups. Both are useful tools for organizing your menus and customizing the guest experience in TripleseatDirect.
Item Groups
Item Groups act as categories within a package, such as Appetizers, Entrées, or Desserts.
Once an Item Group is created, you’ll need to add individual menu items within that group. These are the options guests will see and select from on the Direct Book form.
How to create an Item Group:
- Go to Settings > Menus > Packages.
- Create a new package or click into an existing package.
- Select the Item Groups tab.
- Click + Item Group.
- On the pop-up screen, you can:
- Enter a name for the group
- Set a minimum and maximum selection
- Examples:
- Require guests to choose one entrée → set minimum = 1, maximum = 1
- Allow guests to choose up to two appetizers → set minimum = 1, maximum = 2
- Click Save.
- Once the Item Group is created, click Add Item to add menu items to that group.
- You can continue adding multiple items and additional Item Groups as needed. These will appear grouped on your TripleseatDirect form.
Modifier Groups
Modifier Groups allow guests to customize individual menu items by selecting from predefined options (such as protein choices, sauces, or add-ons).
How to create a Modifier Group (legacy setup):
- Go to Settings > Menus > Packages
- Add or select an item within a package
- Click the Modifier Groups tab
- Click + New Modifier Group
- Enter a name for the modifier group
- Set minimum and maximum selections
- Then click Add Modifier to add options within that group.
- When guests select that item on a TripleseatDirect form, they’ll be prompted to choose from those modifier options.
To add or edit modifiers:
- Go to Settings > Menus > Items.
- Select the item you’d like to update.
- Add or edit modifiers directly on that item.
You can also manage reusable modifiers under:
- Settings > Menus > Modifiers.
Note: If you’ve upgraded to the newest menu experience (you’ll see a Modifiers tab alongside Menu, Packages, and Items), modifier setup has changed slightly:
- Modifiers are now added directly to items, not at the package level
- You can reuse existing items and modifiers, making setup more efficient
